The Maryland Health Care Commission and Health Services Cost Review Commission with the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene publish the:

Maryland Hospital Performance Evaluation Guide containing information on how well individual hospitals treated various conditions. The performance ratings are determined by putting patients into categories based on their medical condition and then comparing the outcomes of the patients in each category at each hospital. The categories are called Diagnostic Related Groups (DRGs). When using the report keep in mind that these categories may result in comparisons of patients who do not always have the same medical histories. For example, cancer patients suffering a complication such as pneumonia may be grouped with noncancer patients in the pneumonia category. If you have questions about the Guide, contact the Maryland Health Care Commission.
